Oops.... Alright... since my web server crash last week, I've been insane restoring all of my services. I would say probably 70% of what I originally had posted to my web server has been restored. Unfortunately, the remaining 30% is going to be a great deal of work to restore. So, I'm going to be quite busy for the next several weeks. Not only working on web sites I promised to get done, but I also need to restore web sites that were there before, and are now gone.
Not only did I loose web content. I also lost every email user account on the server. This includes my friends from my gaming group, BOD Clan. So, I need to recreate all of these accounts.
If you had an email account hosted by me, BOD clan, or Atomic Geek, please contact me via the contact page here and let me know that your email is down. I'll need your old email address and a password for the account so I can restore your account on the server.
Sorry about this. Crashes happen. Just let me know and I'll get it back online for you. |

Well... as you can see, I changed a few things around here. I was planning a redesign for a while. But actually, my wonderful web hosting company forced my hand.
The web server this site is hosted on experienced a major, and fatal crash. The hard drive in the server crashed. At first, I didn't worry much about it. I mean, it's a huge hosting company so they must be backing up my data on a regular basis right?...... right???............. wrong.... They don't back up accounts over 5gb. And they also failed to tell me that they their backup engine is also limited to 5gb. Our server had about 9gb on it before the crash. The only thing that the hosting company was able to salvage were the databases for the sites and some of the directory structure. Everything else was lost and my backups were incomplete and therefore worthless.
So, now what can I do? Not much. The data on the servers is not guaranteed. And they already cashed the check for the next year of hosting. So, I'm kinda stuck with this host for now... for now. Trust me, if they had told me specifically that I would have to do a manual, file by file, backup of everything on the server, I would have been doing it every week. Live and learn I guess. But I won't be plugging this company anymore. And I certainly won't be suggesting this company to anyone again. And, as a web designer, I have the ability to generate a lot of revenue for a hosting company. That's over. Any other accounts hosted by this company, that I'm responsible for, will NOT be renewed for another year.
Anyway, content recovery gave me the opportunity to redesign this site. There may be one or two broken images around here. I'll just have to fix them as I find them. And I completely lost my internal image gallery and my AutoCAD portfolio in the crash. I'll have to restore them somehow. In the mean time, enjoy. It's the same site, only with more goodness. Eventually, I'll add even more goodness. But first, I need to find my AutoCAD files... Wish me luck. |

I would like to thank iTunes for ripping my music collection to shreds. It seems that when you tell iTunes to organize your music collecion, it completely rips apart compilation albums and sticks them into seperat folders called "Unknown Album"s. So now, my 27 gigs worth of music that I ripped myself has been completely ripped apart and reshuffled the way apple thought it should go. Very nice. I can't even find album cover scans that I scanned myself and placed in the folders. I have some songs in folders that don't even belong to the artist.
So, I just wanted to take this oppertunity to thank Apple and iTunes for wrecking my music library. I guess I'll have to start ripping my music again. It's easier to rip then to re-organize this mess. But this time, I'll stick with Windows Media Player 11. Apple makes fantastic devices. But they try to make their software too smart. So smart that iTunes choses it's own algorithums rather then seeing what was alread established in a music folder as a complete album. My iPods: Fantastic. My iTunes software: ugh... Die in a fire and then treat your wounds with salt water.
And I'm sorry I haven't written here in a while. Been really busy. I'll update eventually. For now, in my opinion, iTunes sucks for music organization. |
