Senior Network Design Engineer – Extended Description

Charged with monitoring and tracking the day-to-day activity within the Design department. These activities involved the support of staff questions as they relate to CATV Design and specifications through explanation and description of pre-engineering criteria. Responsible for performing design and drafting related tasks of high complexity for the purpose providing quality signal and customer satisfaction. Interact with the design staff to accomplish the following tasks; Layout proposed fiber architectures. Coordinate design/as-build/ fielding processes. Ensure systems and contractors maintain corporate standards through supervision of staff performing QA/QC on received mapping. Liaison between design contractors and approve design/as-build invoices. QC maps, log all deliveries, revisions etc. on grid map with current revision date. Coordinate capture of information for weekly design report and tracking of project schedules. Insure completion and documentation of accurate fiber/coax maps and documentation. Keep current maps issued to system maintenance departments and rebuild teams on a daily basis. Performed drafting and design tasks of high complexity utilizing both manual and various software applications methods, including the ability to prepare and revise as necessary and appropriate, technical drawings applicable to any existing and planned for cable plant.

Performed tasks of high complexity relating to various types of surveys, including, but not limited to, those that are institutional, residential, and/or commercial. Performs tasks of high complexity relating to footage documentation, cost efficiency methods of entry analyses, methods of construction, and methods of installation. Responsible for performing any and all administrative tasks through the use of appropriate company documentation relating to any and all design activities, by ensuring documentation is completed in a full and accurate manner. Responsible for meeting company standards pertaining to quantity and quality of work performed on an ongoing basis. Responsible for performing all work related tasks in a manner that is in compliance with all Cablevision policies and procedures. Responsible for ensuring that all work related equipment is utilized and maintained in a safe and responsible manner. Responsible for ensuring all work related tasks are performed in a manner that is in compliance with OSHA safety rules and regulations, and all applicable laws.

Specific Tasks:

  • Quality control of design and posting of data to AutoCAD Design Library database.
  • Tracking of projects within the department through staff and contractor reporting.
  • Through interaction with system personnel and vendors, assist in the development of engineering specifications for the design and construction of the network.
  • Quality control of AutoCAD drawing database. Verification that design is in accordance with corporate standards and meets with platform selected for network construction.
  • Assist in the development of Corporate design and mapping standards
  • High level of knowledge regarding map reading from a variety sources (utilities, GIS mapping, survey and field collected data)
  • Performed drafting and design tasks of high complexity as needed for the maintenance of the network
  • Calculations and testing of design specifications required to construct the network within the parameters permitted by Federal, State, and system specifications
  • High level of understanding to all technical aspects of the cable system
  • Interact with vendors for specifications to perform comparisons of equipment performance, cost, and operability within the network
  • Assign tasks, distribution of workload to staff, and quality control of designs. Track miles that are in the design stages and insure that quality control of design to engineering specifications is maintained.
  • Operate within the AutoCAD environment to verify engineering levels and standards are maintained

  • Released approved miles and plant extensions to the system
